Beaconsfield Model Railway Club - Members News

2012 Committee

At the AGM on 27th January, the 2011 committee was re-elected "en bloc" to serve in 2012.  As a reminder, Gordon Ramsay is Chairman, Ray Lewis is Secretary (and also joint exhibition manager), Roy Jackson is Treasurer (and joint exhibition manager), with Dave Saunders as the Club Members representative.

2012 Exhibition

Roy & Ray are making good progress on finalising all the exhibitors and traders for our exhibition this year.  With the hire costs going up £200 this year it is very important that we take every opportunity to publicise the exhibition.  If you have any ideas, please speak to Ray or Roy.  If you are going to an exhibition, check if Roy or Ray are going – if they are not, please take some “flyers” to put out at the exhibition (most shows have a dedicated table for these).

The other thing we always need are items to sell on our second-hand stall.  If you become aware of anyone disposing of any model railway items, please ask if we can have them.  If we can get them free, great – otherwise we will consider paying provided the price is low enough for us to “turn a profit”.

Library

Just to remind members that the Club now has a reference library (courtesy of a generous donation of books from Roy Jackson) which can be found in a cupboard next to the door of the main clubroom.

If anyone else wishes to donate books to expand the collection, this would be most welcome.

It is hoped to soon include a list of the books available on this website.

Social Events and Visits

In July 4 members made a visit to the Amberley Chalk Pits Museum to attend their 2011 "special weekend" anmd enjoyed an excellent day out.

We had thought of a visit to Pendon Museum for a private viewing, but this will now probably be delayed until 2012.

If any members have other ideas or suggestions, concerning possible visits or social events, please let the Secretary know.

2012 Subscriptions

Following the AGM, annual subscriptions are now due and should be paid to Roy as soon as possible.  If you wish to pay in two halves that is fine (the second half becomes payable on 1stJuly).

Clubroom Repaint

Following on from the external redecoration of the clubroom walls, a team recently started work on the roof.

You will see from the first photograph that David and Martin defied death to climb up onto the roof, clean off all the old and loose paint - then putting down the new primer coat.  One thing to note is that the colour of the primer is a good match for "Stone No.1" which the G.W.R used as an undercoat before applying the more famous "Light and Dark Stone" topcoats.  This seems rather appropriate considering the club is situated in Great Western territory.

Applying the topcoat(s) for the roof will now probably have to wait until the Spring.

In the other photograph we see Gordon carrying out the most important task of all - making the tea !!!!!!!

Thanks to all the members who have given up time to help with the redecoration works.
